In Part 3 of our series, we take a look at weaponized incompetence in managing. Are you a manager being exploited for a personal preference? Or are you taking advantage of your manager’s incompetence?
Managing Through Weaponized Incompetence
We all have preferences in our leadership styles. We may not be sticklers for detail. Or we may not require people to pour time into tasks that slow or delay the sales process. This leniency is great at first. But when the process is called into question, things hit the fan pretty quick. Tasking things out upfront may take longer, but ultimately benefit everyone in the long run.
Working Through a Manager’s Incompetence
When a manager gives us freedom, salespeople are empowered. We take the opportunity to show off our abilities unobstructed by menial tasks of the process. Again, it may seem like things are going great. Until you have to repeat the success. Or worse, when you need to analyze where things went awry. Skill building is “building” for a reason. Rarely do you have an innate skill that sets your sales on fire. You need to shape your sales process. You do this by doing the tasks that build the skill. Stop looking for shortcuts where you can learn valuable lessons.
If weaponized incompetence in managing persistently wields its ugly head in your organization, the time to take action is now. Reach out to us – we’ll help you and your team get back to building the skills and processes they need to succeed!
