Psychology of Sales Leadership: Mentoring

Last week, we kicked off a series aimed at discovering the psychology of successful sales leadership. Being mentored and becoming a mentor is a key component of sales leadership. However, in our busy sales cycles, who has time for mentoring?

Mentoring

Mentoring is not for the faint of heart. Seriously. Mentoring takes work. And as a sales leader, you may not have the capacity to mentor. Or to even be mentored. But if you have the opportunity to be mentored, or to become a mentor yourself, congratulations! And commit to mentoring.

Be Available

As a mentor, you need to be accessible in your mentorship. Pick up the phone, or make time for phone calls. Send a text message or respond to text messages from your mentor or mentees. Commit the time it takes for mentorship.

Be Intentional

Find the opportunities to be purposeful in your mentorship. Make the time to consistently connect with your mentor or mentee. Don’t just talk about it. Do it. Follow thru on your commitment.

Execute!

Commit to building the character of your mentees. YOU will benefit when they benefit. Hold yourself accountable for being a good mentor. Hold your mentees accountable in their process. The mentorship will build you both up.
