Personal Values and Your Sales Culture

You cannot exclude your personal values from your sales. This week, Steve continues his discussion on personal culture. As a reminder, Steve defines personal culture as the collective expression of the values that you bring to the sale.

Personal Culture

You have characteristics that uniquely qualify you in your role. These include skills, experience, motivations, interests, and behavioral traits. Some of these attributes can change over time. Experience evolves with you, and you can build on skills. Likewise, your motivations will change with time as will your interests.

Personal Values

Personal values encompass how you think and how you gather information. These things affect how you see the world. They make up your core framework and how you respond to conflict, leadership, listening, and details. These things don’t change. They’re hard-wired to your personality and this cannot be excluded from your personal culture.

Alignment with Your Company Culture

This is where alignment is defined. You can try to twist, squeeze and push your personal culture into your sales culture. The success of this will vary. Steve encourages you to make sure you’re self-aware of the culture you are presenting and the culture you are in. If these two conflict, you may be seeing ramifications in the success of your role and in your sales.
