In sales, most representatives want to be the top dog. As sales leaders, we know this competitive behavior is a key to success for many of our teams. It keeps our reps hungry for success. We reinforce this drive with incentives and compensation. However, as Steve covers in the video, competitive behavior can be a double-edged sword.
As we look to grow our sales teams, we seek out these competitive spirits. We know they will be key members of a successful sales team. But the key phrase here is “of a successful sales team”. We want to make sure that they’re steered in the right direction. As leaders, we need to foster healthy competition within our team. More importantly, we need to remind our reps that the true challenge is to be more successful than our company’s competitors.
Competitive behavior nurtures selling success. Selling as a team ensures our organization continues to celebrate sustainable sales success!
